Welcome to our butchery – where tradition, quality, and care come together in the heart of Hertfordshire. We are John and Adrienne Pack, beef and lamb farmers with deep roots in the local countryside and a shared passion for producing high-quality, ethically reared meat. Our family-run butcher’s shop is based in the village of Codicote, a site that has been home to a butchery for over 250 years. Since taking over the shop in 2017, we’ve been proud to continue this long-standing village tradition, bringing our own farming heritage and values to the business.
John was raised on his family’s farm just a few miles from Codicote and has always had a strong connection to the land and livestock. After gaining experience on a large-scale beef farm, he began building his own herd in 2011. Today, we rear around 100 head of native breed cattle - mostly Aberdeen Angus, renowned for their tenderness and flavour - alongside nearly 200 store lambs. Our farm on the outskirts of Hitchin is run on a grass-based, low-intensity system, allowing our animals to grow at a natural pace, which not only supports animal welfare but also enhances the depth and quality of the meat we produce.
Farming is truly a family affair. Alongside raising our four young children, we are committed to sustainable and responsible farming practices that respect the animals, the environment, and the community we serve. Every cut of meat we sell in the shop comes with a story - one of care, time, and pride. From pasture to plate, we are dedicated to offering the finest local meat, expertly butchered and honestly presented.
